Prior to Hurricane Ian, Humane Society Naples was already performing an enormous service to pets in the area.

After Ian swept through southwest Florida, the situation has become even more dire.

According to HSN, they are focused on "an unprecedented animal rescue campaign in the wake of Hurricane Ian." They have been focusing on working with "partners across Florida to clear their shelters by transporting animals to partner organizations out of state." HSN explains that by clearing these shelters, it makes room for the expected arrival of animals lost or displaced by the storm.

How many animals are we talking about? HSN has trasnported more than 500 animals to 17 different partner organizations and they say this will continue for the coming weeks.

HSN has also been assisting pet owners from Cape Coral to Everglades City, Florida.

In three days time, HSN distributed:

• 2,328 pound of dry dog food
• 835 pounds of cat food
• 658 cans of dog food
• 2,358 cans of cat food
• 1,733 pound of kitty litter
• 50 pet beds
• Hundreds of dog toys, treats, chews, collars and leashes
