#BlackDogsInTutus Project
Helping Hard-to-Place Dogs Find Forever Homes
About a year ago, we realized that something kinda odd was happening. One of the rescues that I worked with always seemed to have a lot of big ol' pitties coming in but some of the dogs were just not being placed.
Not only were they not being placed, people weren't applying to adopt them.
People weren't even asking to meet them. And these pitties were puppies, young dogs and even a lovable senior.
What did these dogs all have in common? They were black (or mostly black).
Black Dog Syndrome or Big Black Dog (BBD) Syndrome is a Real Thing.
Studies have shown that there is some sort of bias working against black dogs, especially big black dogs, such as pitties and/or pittie mixes. And just like the studies have indicated, these sweet black pitties -- all with fantastic temperaments -- were being passed over for dogs with lighter colors--even if the lighter colored dogs had a few more *issues* to sort out.
If you want to read a little bit more about the studies, you can go HERE.

Without further ado, here are some of the #BlackDogsInTutus and their success stories!
AND, we are still accepting doggos for the project, if you are a shelter or rescue that might have a (girl) dog or two who might need a little extra attention to find that perfect fur-ever home. Please see the button at the bottom of this page for more information and a link to a #BlackDogsInTutus Project form.
